engulfed.
Memory | essence | power

Drawing from childhood memories of visits to Siesta Key and the Gulf of Mexico, I recall a sense of place where the expanses of sand, wild jungle and the powerful pull of the sea created an indelible impression.

I have a lifelong fascination and respect for the ocean. It’s a grounding and enveloping presence, an incubator of life and a terrifyingly destructive force of nature. Contrasting ebbs and flows. It is the true “Mother” of the earth.

This ongoing series of mixed media paintings is built up over time in layers, much like the memories themselves. They express my physical sense of the ocean’s raw energy, the textures and the beauty of the land that surrounds it.
